Outdoor Jacket Pattern Engineering

Patterns decide how a jacket moves, fits over layers and takes seam tape. We engineer them before the first sample is cut.

What we review at pattern stage

Review point Why it matters Typical question
Articulation Arms and knees need to move without lifting the hem Does the sleeve pitch fit climbing or skiing reach?
Hood geometry Helmet fit and field of view Does the hood fit over a helmet and still adjust?
Layer allowance Shells go over mid layers Does the chest and sleeve allow for a fleece or insulated layer?
Grading Fit across the full size range Do grade rules suit each size or need adjustment?
Seam-tape planning Seams must be tapeable on curves and intersections Are seam intersections and radii simple enough to seal cleanly?
Pocket and zipper placement Access with pack, harness or gloves Can the pocket be reached with a hip belt on?

From pattern to sample

  1. Select or adapt a block for the product category and fit
  2. Develop the patterns, seam allowances and notches, including tape-friendly seams for waterproof styles
  3. Cut and make the first sample in the intended fabric where possible
  4. Fit review on a model or form, with measurements checked against the tech pack
  5. Revise patterns and make a second sample if needed
  6. Approve the pre-production sample before bulk

Pattern work links directly to tech pack development before it and to seam-sealed construction after it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you grade patterns across all sizes?

Yes. Grading is built from your size chart and checked on sample sizes where needed.

Can you adapt an existing pattern?

Yes. Many projects start from your pattern or our block and adapt fit and details.

How many samples will I need?

Many programs need one to three rounds, depending on how complete the tech pack is and how complex the construction is.
